i would say 5w30.the best weight for winter.its light and will get to the parts that need lubercated faster in the winter.when it come summer, and hot outside switch to a heavier oil,so it wont break down, when its hot outside, something like 10w30 or 10w40.

The owners manual should call for 5w30 in winter. Agree with other answer use a good oil, maybe even switch to Mobil 1 full synthetic, will help with the poor mileage the jeeps are famous for.

The above answers are correct...However, could I inject one other small tid bit. If you do a search for zinc in motor oil, you will find that the oil manufacturers have reduced the zinc, the primary anti wear agent to very low levels. Several of us who have done the stroker conversions with KNOWN brand after market cams have experienced cam failures in 30,000 miles..Me to. We are being told my cam manufacturers to go to diesel motor oil which still has the higher levels of zinc to protect flat tappet cams. I now run that in all my cars and trucks. Food For thought. and no, I do not believe synthetics, for the cost, are ANY better at long life than mineral oils. Have three trucks at over 220,000 miles on mineral oil.
