Equation No. 1: The plus between the fractions should be a minus.
Equation No. 2: The plus between the fractions should again be a minus.
Equation No. 3: The minus between the fractions should be a plus!

The signs are wrong if you are to get to the answers you need.

Is this what you are after?

5m/(m+1)+(1+4m)/(m+1)=(m-1)/(m+1)
multiply both sides by (m+1) and get:
5m + (1+4m) = m-1
9m +1=m-1
8m=-2
m=-1/4

(a+b)/2 + (a-b)/2 = b
multiply both sides by 2 and get:
a+b + a-b = 2b
2a = 2b
a = b

x^2/(x+5) - 5x/(x+5) = x
multiply both sides by (x=5) to get:
x^2 -5x = x(x+5)
x^2 - 5x = x^2 + 5x
-5x = 5x
x = -x x therefore must be zero

A)
5m 1+4m -1(1+4m) -4m+5m-1 1+m m-1
-------- + -------- = ------------= ------------ = ------- = -------
m+1 m+1 m+1 m+1 m+1 m+1
On the second the top number of the second faction you flip the top number by mulitpe by negative one to get -4m-1 then you add 5m to it.

5m/m+1+1+4m/m+1=m-1/m+1

Multiply both sides by m+l:
5m+1+4m=m-1
9m+1=m-1

Subtract m from both sides:
8m+1=-1

Subtract 1 from both sides:
8m=-2

Divide 8 from both sides:
m=-1/4

Check:
5(-1/4)/(-1/4+1)+(1+4(-1/4)/
(-1/4+1)=(-1/4-1)/(-1/4+1)
-5/4/3/4+0/3/4=-5/4/3/4
-5/4*4/3=-5/4*4/3
-5/3=-5/3

2)(a+b)/2+(a-b)/2=b
Multiply both sides by 2:
(a+b)+(a-b)=2b
a+b+a-b=2b
2a=2b

Divide both sides by 2:
a=b

Check:
(b+b)/2+(b-b)/2=b
2b/2+0/2=b
b=b

3)x^2/x+5-5x/x+5=x
Multiply both sides by x+5:
x^2-5x=x(x+5)
x^2-5x=x^2+5x

Subtract x^2 from both sides:
-5x=5x

Add 5x from both sides:
10x=0

Divide 10 from both sides:
x=0

Check:
(0)^2/(0+5)-5(0)/(0+5)=0
0/5+0/5=0
0=0

I hope this helps!

Question 2: any number so that a=b
Question 3: x=0

2007-02-17 03:13:06 · answer #5 · answered by Anonymous · 1 0

(5m/m+1)+(1+4m/m+1)= m-1/m+1
m+1[(5m/m+1)+(1+4m/m+1)= m-1/m+1]m+1
5m+1+4m=m-1
5m+4m-m=-1-1
8m= -2
m= -2/8
m= -1/4
===============================
(a+b/2)+(a-b/2)=b
2[(a+b/2)+(a-b/2)=b]2
a+b+a-b=2b
2a+2b=2b
2a=2b-2b
2a=0
a=0

(o+b/2)+(0-b/2)=b
b=0
================================

(x^2/x+5)-(5x/x+5)=x
x+5[(x^2/x+5)-(5x/x+5)=x]x+5
x^2-5x=x^2+5x
x^2-x^2=5x+5x
x=0
