Consider the reaction:
2 NaHCO 3(s) <==> Na 2CO 3(s) + CO 2(g) + H 2O(g)
Match the following four changes to the reaction with their effect on the equilibrium.
____Mg(ClO 4) 2(s) is added as a drying agent to remove H 2O.
____NaHCO 3(s) is added.
____Dry ice (solid CO 2) is added.
____0.20 atm of argon gas is added.
1.
The reaction shifts towards the reactants.
2.
The reaction shifts towards the products.
3.
The change has no effect on the equilibrium.

In this exercise you must consider Le Chatelier's principle: "If a chemical system at equilibrium experiences a change in concentration, temperature, or total pressure; the equilibrium will shift in order to minimize that change."
a)In the first case, water is removed, so the reaction shifts in the direction in which water is formed, so the answer is 1
b)The concentration of NaHCO3 will increase, so the reaction shifts in the directon in which NaHCO3 is consumed, so the right answer is 2
c)The system contains CO2(g), so by adding dry CO2 the equilibrium won't change. The answer is 3
d)By adding argon, the pressure increases, so the reaction must shift in the direction in which to diminish it. The reactant is solid, so its pressure is 0, but two of the reactants are gases (CO2 and H2O), so the system can lower its pressure by consuming the gases. The correct answer is 1
Hope this helped.

first: 2, since you're removing a product (water), however I will never use Mg(ClO4)2 as dessiccant in a decomposition reaction, because it's explosive. Mg2(SO4) is just enough.
second: 2. The reaction shifts towards the products.
third: 1 as soon as you add the dry ice, it starts to sublimate, adding CO2 (g) to the system.
fourth: 1 of course, if you add pressure in the form of a non reacting gas the reaction search for an equilibrium, so it would like to reduce the pressure and so the reaction shifts towards the reactant. (that is solid, instead 2 products are gases)

To answer these questions u need 2 know the Le chateliar's principle,it says the direction of equilibrium shifts in such a manner that it minimize the effect of any subjected change,if u'r still finding problems .
Adding (mgcl4) will mean reducing concentration of (h20) ,so forward shift 2 increase its concentration, similarly adding (nahco3) will cause a backward shift ,next, dry ice: no change b'cause it does not effect the concentration of gaseous (co2),argon addition increases the total volume but as reactant and product have the same no of moles of gases any shift in direction can't reduce the effect of this change,no shift here as well.
