The distance between Boston and Chicago is a little over 980 miles. Depending on traffic and weather conditions, you should probably be able to make it in 15 or 16 hrs. But the way weather has been the past few weeks, I'd figure in a little more time, just to be safe.

Streets and Trips clocks it at 990 miles, if you use I-90 all the way. Did this trip back in 2004 for the Democratic Convention.

You should really do it in two days.
Take 90 across New York and stop in Buffalo or Erie.
From there, it's still another 8-10 hours to Chicago.

I did it in 16 hours, a little over 1,000 miles, You'll have to stop 2 or 3 times to fill up and twice to eat, so you can probably average 60-65 mph. If you hit hit any cities during rush hour, you might have to add an hour or so (especially around New York)
