THEY are the ones who know it all! THEY are the ones who have all the answers! Thank the heavens that THEY are here to help us or WE might be in a world of trouble. (One question though Are THEY related to THEM and what is the connection?)

They usually refers to people.
The people it refers to can vary.
"They" may be a religious group, parents, or kids.
In fact, "They" refers to groups of people with similar interests.
"They" is used because of people not wishing to name everyone that is within this group.
It is much easier, to say they did it, than to say, "Mary, John, Ashley, Peter, Junior, Ronald, Alice, Jenny, Jason, Jerry, and Chris were the ones who did it.
By generalizing groups with the use of the term they, it makes it much quicker to convey a meaning or thought to someone.
