I'm no professional in this field. But i think its not about casting spells and witchery. There are people who believe they are witches, white witches do good and black witches do all the curses (if they even do) I don't know any so...

watching an old episode of QI (the program hosted by Stephen Fry) apparently there were only 3 people every sentenced to death for being a witch. These so called witches were hung and not burned at the steak.

As for the original question i really don't know. But i suppose that people who believe in hocus pocus and all that would say yes of course they do. This question is similar to someone asking the question is God real? The answer to that question is that we will never truly know or understand.

Please not i am not comparing God to witch craft but you can see the point that i am trying to make.

Which witch is a real witch, that must be the question....
As has been said on many of the answers.... Yes Witches are real, but not in the Wizard of Oz / Hocus Pocus sense, despite what the Witch Doctors of Africa claim (well I hope not anyway for I fear being turned into a toad!!).

Depends if you mean witches who wave a book about and cast 'spells' or people who happen to have a natural effect on the actions of others, or understand people better than most regular folk do. Out of those, I'd say the only 'real' witches are those who have a better connection with people and the world. I'd also assume these people also tend not to advertise the fact they are so-called 'witches'?

Yes there are some real witches - but not like in books! They don't have wands or anything. Most practise white magic witch is magic that is used to help people, some do black magic though witch are spells used for a selfish nature. Common things to use in spells and rituals are candles, oils, and some witchs have an 'altar' to do these on.

Yes! Despite popular belief that Witches only exist in fairy tales, Witches do exist in real life. I am one of so many that are out there. We, however, are not like what we see in Disney cartoons or on tv. We are not evil and mean (unless someone ticks us off). Many of us are really nice, and have a great respect for Nature. Now I am a witch (as I said) But I do not practice Wicca. Wicca is a religion which uses witchcraft. So be careful you don't get the two confused.

No I don't think that witches are real in the real sense, although there are a few people you could call witches if you know what I mean

yeah - my friend had one as a lodger. She was hot and I drooled over her. She did nothing weird or outrageous in that time except for not pay her rent, so my friend slung her out.

Wicca is basically a new religion based on whatever could be gleaned about old practices from the small amount of information that wasn't burned by members of certain other religions. It's kinda twee, sometimes seems a tad pointless from a cynical viewpoint, and yet it breeds a world-consciousness that has the best chance of saving the planet of any religious belief anywhere on earth. Go witches.

YEP...in the olden days a woman would be called a witch if she muttered or cursed also if a young woman collected herbs from her garden like lemon or mint and tansy to cure her cold. If the next day she was cured...she would be victimized as a witch. It was all fear and superstition. There are witches these days in certain parts of the country which are a nudist cult. They dance in woods and encourage fertility.

I guess if you think you're a witch,act like a witch,call yourself a witch then you're a witch.
I used to like near a family who were pagans and the mother claimed to be a white witch, but as for spells, personally I think not.
