The point of a laptop is that you can take it with you. So do just that. Take your laptop, and your power cord. That's about it.

You may want to carry an extra Ethernet cable, or a phone cable with you just in case if you want to do some internet connectivity in a hotel that only has Ethernet connections.

As for the airplane, as long as you disable things like Wifi, you can use it as soon as takeoff is finished. But unless you're carrying an extra battery, or in a nice enough plane that offers a power source, you're limited to using it as long as your battery can hold out.

Sounds like all you need is a hotel with WiFi access. That's what I do and I have used my laptop in Australia, Asia and Europe without problems.
