Well, lets just imagine this... your best friend need some money but you're totally broke, how r u suppose to lend her money if you don't have any?... that's what happens with love if you don't have any, you can not give it to some one else... besides love bases on respect, respect the other is mainly to treat them the way you'd like them to treat you, and... if you don't love your self, you won't put to much on taking care of you, as consequence neither on taking care on them...
Love your self it's not only to think, you're great (which I'm sure you are, since you're concern about this) but also to now your strength and weaknesses and how to play with them, enjoy the good things and try to improve your self, and take care of you like, give you time for relax, to enjoy, get your self nice(not expensive) and clean clothes, thanking regular bath, eat properly, have good sleep...
Besides if you don't think you're good enough, when you get some one you really like, you will unconsciously keep that people away from you, in order to not damage them; but then the reject Will hurt them any way... so that's help less.
And more important (i don't know if you're a believer or not) but i know GOD loves you, and he think you're beautiful and great, you're his treasure... so if GOD him self think like that of you, why should you think you're less than that?

You have to bring something to the table in any relationship. It helps if you know what that "gift that is uniquely yours" is. That allows you to feel deserving of love and respect & is the foundation of self esteem. That's what loving yourself really is - knowing that you are worthy. Without "self love" in relationships,as in life - you're just holding on.

If you don't love yourself you definitely cannot love others. Pretty much you could love someone else soooo much, but then you will realize in those other moments when they are not around that you are left, feeling uncertain, and a little empty. You need to be happy and satisfied and loving yourself will allow that.

simple example
if you think you are ugly and hate your face, how can
you say hello to someone with smile face to face? and even if someone is interested in you , you cant accept it , you even regard it as an insult because you think nobody can like your ugly face , so you think he is making fool of you, its insulting.
loving your self is the basis to love another person and to accept the love from another .
loving yourself is very closely connected with self image.
to improve self image is a big step toward loving yourself.
