A few buddies of mine and I are making some what of a documentary about local area ghosts tales. the movie is in the same form of a regular horror flick (nothing like blair witch project). I was wondering if you had any local ghost tales you would like to tell. please provide the name of the place, state, any known history, and what the ghost supposidly does on site (how they haunt you and stuff like that) the 3 tales that "I" feel are the best will be put into the idea pile. any movie we do make, you will be credited for the tale. this is an attempt to be aired on the sundance channel

note: we are looking for not so famous tales

It said that in Coffeyville Kansas the graveyard on South Willow is haunted by the ghosts of the Dalton Brothers.

Back on Oct. 5 1892 (I think). The notorious Dalton Gang robbed two banks at the same time in Coffeyville. Not having a large sheriff group in town at the time, the city folks decided to do something about it. SO they shot the brothers and killed them in a raid. The Daltons not having any money and the last brother survived in prison no one cared if the boys got a proper burial. So the brothers were buried on South Willow and their combined headstone was nothing more than a bent pipe that stretched across their graves.

To this day you can go out there at around dusk (app. time of burial as what I heard) and hear them talk or complain.

I have been there before and for many years the ground seemed in a drought type stage just in that area. The town has many versions of it though. The story of the Dalton Raid is true and is celebrated yearly on the anniversary date of Oct. 5th. You can do a search for Coffeyville Kansas and their homepage has info on it about the Daltons. Good luck with your search.

Mamie Thurman--- The Ghost of 22 Mine Road
Holden- Logan county, West Virginia
There's been a book written about the mystery of her death:
"The Secret Life & Brutal Death of Mamie Thurman", but it doesn't cover the hauntings.
22 Mine Road is a popular place for teenagers to hangout because there is a bridge where you put you car in neutral and it will "pull" your car UPHILL, supposedly to the place where her body was dumped. ( My friends and I actually did this when were younger, lol it does kinda freak you out.) This phenomenon has actually been investigated by local news channels and state road officials/engineers can offer no explaination as to why this happens. Good luck with the movie whatever you pick!

You should get on the urban exploration web ring. They list tons of interesting sites on there, many of which have myths about being haunted.

Also, you could go visit Centralia, PA. Lots of eerie things to see there:
