Well,Mr.Bush has shown countries like China,Iran and Russia that there are definite limits to our power, and if you think that China and Russia will just let us roll over Iran, you got another thing coming.Iran is a client state of both nations-they have political and financial ties that they are not willing to turn their backs on.China is building up to confront us(their anti-satellite missile should of scared the hell out of everybody, because our technology addicted military will be in a world of trouble when they're without their CandC system in a military confrontation with China).
One of the contributing factors in the fall of the Soviet Union was the fact the Soviets did not support Iraq in the first Gulf War.The people seen it as another sign of weakness on the government's part and the betrayal of an ally.A leader like Putin is not about to travel that path again.
But I love how people answer this question as diatribes against liberals. The fact of the matter is that the biggest cuts in military funding and personnel in modern times was began under the first George Bush.It is true the Clinton administration signed off on the program, but it was a Republican idea.People should learn some real history before they spout off.
And one other thing-the current war in Iraq began as Rumsfeld was engaged in even more troop cuts(he was creating a leaner, more responsive military).
So,yes we suffer from significant military weaknesses. What people should be doing is telling those in the Government that they want the military fixed, not screaming at liberals who really had the least to do with the current state of affairs. It is really the fault of the G.O.P.

Only neocons like Bush think we are weak. They constantly rant about how the terrorists will think we are weak if we exercise our democratic freedom of speech. Of course, one look at the national intelligence estimate will point out that it was the Iraq war that did the most to fan the fires of terrorism.

No, we're not weak. The only thing that can defeat the United States is the United States - if we can knock Bush off his pedestal, that won't happen.

Very, very true. We are the Goliath of the planet. Let's not forget david though. A strong candidate with a plan to win and end the war in Iraq is John McCain.

Here are his plans in black and white for eveyone to see.

He is the only candidate brave enough to let you know befoehand what you can expect of his presidency.

Not the bombs... just the people.

Of course it's only a minority, but I think it's easier for the international community to focus on that minority which wrecks havoc than on the rest of Americans.

I don't think reasonably well informed people can legitimately believe it. The us is the strongest, wealthiest country in the world. Ultimately, it could whup anyone's butt.

yes, the civilian population of the US is weak, otherwise there would be 10,000,000 people standing in DC demanding that our elected officials to do the job we elected them for or get the hell out.

you are weak because you defy a multliateral approach to solve issues...first, you defied UN, second you didn't heed to your formal allies but instead called them "old europe," third, you even defied the voice of your own countrymen. that makes you weak, coz you're unilateralist. no longer are the allied days.
