I dont think she should have gotten upset because there are lots off ppl in Mexico that dont have good water, and Turkey, and Hungry, and China... There are lots of places.. Africa just happend to come out of your mouth.. Its a fact, not a racial slur.. Soo if she doesnt get over it in like a week then just let it go..

I would be offended cause not all parts or countries in africa face thesame problem because some most families are poor and the rest are wealthy, I have a friend of mine who's African and they are ****** wealthy I've been to Africa too and I don't see such stuff you are all talking about cause you haven't even been there so yeah... Most people are use and believe in stereotyping cause I used to think Africa was some junk **** of place but I think I got it wrong, It's just the way people live there is different from here so yeah

I would feel offended to because people in other parts of the world don't have water, food, clothing, or medicine. Most generalize Africa as a place of sickness and a place with no money. But there are other countries just like it. You could have said something like "Save some water for the fishes".

Unless you're working for the , Conservation of sorts? Than I would definitely say that, " Some things are left unsaid". Besides their are plenty of regions, other than Africa, that have limited water resources. Such as Las Vegas, Nevada. United states of America. Go figure
You really should think, before you speak. Not to mention your concern, than perhaps you should donate a % from your earnings, to cover many of your cultured co-workers, who I would assume have been guilty of such mentioned. Don't worry about things, that aren't in your control.

well what you said probably isn't as true as you think it is. (I mean sure there are homeless people who dont have water, but there those people in India and Asia to. I mean there are people in America who dont have water either. I know a few Africans and they seem pretty sensitive when we imply that Africa is uncivilized.
She obviously missed the whole point your were trying to make which is dont waste water, but you probably should have made your point some other way.

I would have not been EXTREMELY offended, but more annoyed. She is not stupid, she probably knows Africa doesnt have a lot of water, but she doesnt need a co-worker reminding her. Plus are you in Africa? Is she working in Africa? She is in America. We have water. She can use as much water as she wants. If she wanted to go saving water, then awesome. But its not your place to tell her to do so.

A better reply may have been "A lot of people in the world are experiencing drought conditions".
Unless you are in Africa, what you do makes no difference to the water supply there.
The comment may have been justified, but leave the "Africa" part out of it.

We grew up with our parents telling us there are people in africa who will eat it when we didn't finish our plates or didn't want to eat something we thought nasty. Nothing wrong with it. Co-worker thought you were being prejudice in your comment. I think she was justified in being upset. We also have to learn not to mimick our parents. Another phrase was I brought you in this world and I can take you out. I would never say that to my kids now. Just talk with her and let her know your ture meaning.

It can be kinda insulting to hear someone say that you country is so to say the "dumps" even if you did'nt mean it. had you left out the word Africa and said "Alot of people in the WORLD don't have water" she might not have been offended. : )

I don't see why she would be, but that doesn't mean she wouldn't have some legit reason we don't know about. Maybe you should've asked why it offended her when apologizing, or go back and give it a shot again if the issue isn't too far into the past already.
