soooo.... If you have your fathers surname on your birth certificate but your parents are divorced and you want to use your mothers last name do you have to legally change it or can you just use it?

You will have to legally change it. But, to change a minors name, both parents must give consent to do this. And, if you have your Father's last name, and change it to your Mother's, he will no longer be required to pay any child support in most states.

no you have to go in front of a judge and ask to change it

it costs a few bucks and then you are legal

if you dont you can get junk mail in her last name or catalogs
but for taxes payroll banking you will still have to use the name of your dad
