New info shows that England south of a line from the Wash to the Isle of Wight subsidises the rest of the UK to the tune of an average of £ 1,000 per head. North East England gets a subsidy of £ 2,591 per head, followed by Yorkshire and NW England. Obviously the Scots and Welsh receive massive subsidies.

I guess the population of this new Kingdom would be around 30 million and it would be by far the wealthiest major country in the EU. Without the drag of the poorer areas of the UK the new Kingdom could lower taxes and forge ahead still further. The Conservatives would have a natural majority.

Well if you do steal all the wealth creating businesses and push all the loss making and costly social infrastructure into the poorest parts of the country then it is not surprising you've got all the dosh.

I wouldn't bother with a congestion charge in London but I would put a massive charge on anyone trying to leave your 'New Kingdom' for our rural climes.
You seem to forget that it is the low paid workers in the rest of the country that support your pyramid of success. These are the people who can't get jobs in their places of birth because the wealthy owners have closed down their factories to make the accounts look better and get rid of pension liabilities.
They have to travel to your area in order to find any work.
Look in your history books its been going on for centuries.

I believe twin jags instigated all this (I stand corrected if wrong)
May I usurp your notion and apply for an independent state of East Sussex, Prezzie guts and the rest of the Tony gang will be arrested for treason and bringing our country into worldwide disrepute. Personally, I have more regard for hoodies and boy racers than these idiots in government, the ineffectual police will be disbanded and anyone drawing dole will be recruited and trained to support the community and not ignore it. All police chiefs will be made to spend at least 1 month of the year on the beat, visiting the rambling council estates of East Sussex and asking tenants how they feel about 'what are you doing for our community'. Perhaps you and I may form an alliance, and refuse to pay council tax for pensioners and the indigenous unemployed until we have one language, one God and our housing is given back to our people, a bit like the S African land grab giving farms back to the black people.

Hang on, what about Kent and Middlesex?

Seriously, you need to think about the big picture. As it stands, the UK is one of the biggest economic powers in the world. Reduced to one-sixth of its size, despite the relative wealth in the Southeast, would put us in the same league in terms of size and influence as: LUXEMBOURG. I mean, even within the BeNeLux, Luxembourg is nothing! Sure, it's extremely wealthy, but most people in the world haven't ever heard of it. And because the cost of living there is so high, people who live there don't spend their money there - they go to Belgium or France or Germany to buy their goods.

Imagine a scenario where this "magic kingdom" you propose existed. Because of the average wage, the cost of living would rise expotentially. We would all "cross the border" to north and west of the M25 to buy our goods.

Silly idea, just like Scottish independence (although I say to the Scots, "goodbye and good riddance, and not my problem if you haven't got a CLUE as to what you are letting yourselves in for - like a net debt of £12 billion a year plus unless you raise income taxes by 10% across the board, cut most public spending and borrow like there's no tomorrow"). Surely, the best way forward is to parcel out the national wealth according to population and tax receipts, rather than supposed "need" (where the "needy" = the willfully unemployed).

Excellent idea, I might even travel back to my home and claim my birthright. Could we have some ethnic cleansing as well? That would be a bonus!

(p.s. no to Devon and Cornwall due to their celtic connections and the amount they are subsidised by retiring migrants from East Anglia and Wessex))
