Ok, I had unprotected sex 9 days before my period is due. It has almost been a week since we had unprotected sex and lately I have been feeling slight cramps, crazy sense of smell and I just think Im pregnant because I have one kid and I never really have cramps this early before my period or even during my normal period. Can I take a HPT now or is it too early? I heard you can test 5 days before your missed period, and I am due to have mine in 3-4 days.

If you do not chart or monitor your fertility in any way, and you think you may have conceived, you should wait 19 days (or longer) after having sex to test. Why 19?! Sperm can live approximately 5 days in the proper environment; if the sperm managed to live until you popped an egg, the actual conception could have taken place several days after the sex act that got the sperm there. To make sure you're not testing too early, assume the sperm had very long lives (5 days is considered a very long sperm life) and that conception occurred then. Then allow 14 days for the embryo to implant and develop enough hCG to show up on a pregnancy test (96% of pregnant women will test positive by then.)

There are some tests that say you can test 5 days before a missed period...Clear blue easy, first response etc...You should buy a 2 pack take one in the morning with first morning urine becuase it is the most concentrated...if it comes out neg and you dont get your period test again....after that I would go to the dr for a blood test...Good Luck~~
