Yes.

My grandfather, great-uncle, and stepfather. Then there are the hundreds of Masons I know through my involvement in a Masonic youth organization.

My grandfather was one of the best men I have ever known and probably will ever know. A man who you would be hard-pressed to say anything bad about.

Thomas Jefferson was NOT a Mason. There have been only 14 Presidents who have belonged to the Masonic Fraternity Freemasonry is an oath bound fraternal order of men which derives from the medieval fraternity of Freemasons. We adhere to many of the Ancient Charges, laws, customs and legends of operative Freemasonry. We are loyal to the civilian government under which we exist. We inculcate moral and social virtues by symbolic applications of the operative stonemasons' working tools and by allegories, lectures and charges. Freemasonry obligates its members to obey the principles of brotherly love, equality, mutual aid, secrecy and confidence. We have secret modes of recognition that permit members to recognize each other as brothers. We require a through examination into the mental, moral and physical qualifications of a petitioner and we admit men into the fraternity by secret ceremonies based in part on legends of the Craft.

Once a person has decided to apply for membership he fills out a petition signed by 2 members of the Lodge he desires to join. He gives the petition to one of the members along with the required initiation fee. The petition is read at the next stated meeting when the Worshipful Master appoints an examination committee who will interview the petitioner in person and this investigation committee will report back to the Lodge at the following stated meeting. all members present will vote on the petitioner. Once the petitioner is accepted he is given the three degrees of Entered Apprentice, Fellow Craft and the Sublime Degree of a Master Mason. There are certain requirements a candidate must meet before he can proceed from one degree to the next.

One must obtain the Sublime Degree of a Master Mason before he is allowed to wear any Masonic jewelry. One must have a Belief in a Supreme Being and HOLY BOOKS play an important part in Masonic Rituals. The tenets of the Masonic Lodge are
" Brotherly Love, Relief and Truth. " The Masonic Fraternity is NOT a Secret Society but rather a Society with Secrets. The Masonic Fraternity is NOT Satanic in nature nor is it a Religion in itself.

Suggest if you are interested in pursuing interest in the Masonic Fraternity and are over 18 years of age you contact a man whom you know is a Mason for further information and a petition. if under 18 you can inquire about the DeMolay Organization.

If no local Masonic Lodge is available then suggest you contact the Grand Lodge of Masons in the State in which you reside.

what do you mean 'were' they good men? 'are' they would be more accurate.

yes, my grandfather was a mason, and my father-in-law is a mason.

i have my grandfather's masonic apron and watch as mementos.

there is a lot of mysticism surrounding masons, and also a lot of suspicion. some say the masons have had a huge influence in modern society, particularly in america - look up some of the storeis about the dollar bill, for example.

generally speaking the masons were put together to help people, to aid their "fellow man", and if you met another mason you had to to do everything in your power to help him. generally speaking they were good Christian people who used their influence for the greater good.

some, of course, abused that power and the masons have been accused of being a corrupt network ... their influence runs wide and so they can affect things which may seem inappropriate.

it wouldn't be unheard of for a mason to give a fellow mason a job over a non-mason, or for a mason judge or police officer to let a fellow mason off with a charge.

this is all conjecture, however, and - to answer your question - as a rule the freemasons were setup as a cooperative to help people and, thus, were good people.

The free masons may very well be the last cohesive and non-religious group of caring individuals unaffected by the hoardes of self-absorbed anti-american leftists.
