If you are renting there won't be much difference other than having to mow the lawn. Owners of condo's usually pay a fee for maintenance and upkeep to an association who oversees such things. You will have more privacy with a house.

You must be sure your lease explicitly states who will pay the condo fee. In most cases it is the landlord.

In addition, you will find there are more restrictions when renting a condo. Most condos require that almost anything you want to do to the exterior of the property (from as simple as flying the flag) requires the condo association review and approval.
