Yeah, loved it every time (about 10 times if you include islands).
Egypt: Loved Luxor. Small, safe, kalesh drivers all over, nice hotels. Didn't like Hurghada, but was there before it was developed into a resort and there were only like two hotels; one was a 5 star full of Germans, other was a kind of a dump. It was a great adventure to take the local bus from Luxor and share it with people toting live chickens on board. Most surreal was the bus stop in the middle of the desert - literally - with people queuing. The sights were absolutely magnificent, and we managed to do most of them in one day by car. Our driver didn't speak any English but he was fantastic. I didn't like the fact that many of the better known tombs in the Valleys (of the Kings and Queens) were closed, but then they do have to maintain the graves and close them on occasion. Just bad timing.
Have been to South Africa twice; both times incredible fun. Cape Town is my favourite city there and the area around it (including the cape down to Cape Point) is magnificent, but really enjoyed Franschhoek, the West Coast, the Garden Route, the Little Karoo, the Zurberg Mountains and going on safari in Kwazulu-Natal. Was not so impressed with the Hibiscus Coast or the Seaview/Maitland area (near Port Elizabeth), nor with the Overberg coast. Unfortunately I missed the Cederberg, Drakensberg and Northern Cape - for the next visit! Would also like to visit Kruger at least once.
I don't like the fear factor in RSA. You always have to be on your guard, or at least feel like you have to be. I do think that random violent crime is a bit overhyped by people who lived there during apartheid and think back to those times with rose-coloured spectacles. I am not doubting that it is a serious problem, but I still feel the people who live there (mainly the white ones) make it out to be much worse than it is, based on statistical evidence.
There is evidence of deep poverty all over the country; townships are depressing and make me a tad nervous to drive through/beside. People who have actually visited townships on guided tours say there's no cause for fear.
The other thing I don't like is the custom of leaving the windows and blinds/curtains open during the hottest part of the day. This is not what we do in Southern Europe - we do the opposite. If afraid to leave windows open at night, we open them for an hour before nightfall to let the air in. But that is apparently the way they do things there - who am I to tell them different?
I really enjoyed driving in South Africa, and the South Africans are polite drivers. On single-lane highways, most of them pull over for cars going faster than them, and if you pull over for another car, they thank you by flashing their emergency lights once.
Everybody I have met on my travels in RSA was super-super-super nice without exception.
Have spent several glorious holidays on the Indian Ocean islands of Mauritius and Reunion - both technically part of Africa.
We plan to go to Namibia and Mozambique - probably on separate trips - in the future.

I LIVE in Africa!
I am an American living in Tunisia and I love Tunisia very much!
Situated on the Mediterranean Sea, it is the northernmost African country, and the smallest of the nations situated along the Atlas mountain range, bordering Algeria, to the west, and Libya to the south east.
The country is so full of history (has been under the rule of Phoenicians, Romans, Arabs, Berbers, Ottomans, Beys, and French; played a significant part in WWII, was the center of the ancient world with Carthage as the capitol, etc) and it has so many beautiful places to visit! It is unlike any other Arab country in that is has a lot of greenery. There are also many historical ruins in just about every part of the country you go to.
The mountain region is breathtaking! There are fantastic views and an the atmosphere is reminiscent of an old town in Switzerland. Absolutely gorgeous! The coast is marvelous. The Sea is clear and picturesque. The midland and south are terrific because they offer you the chance to peek into a forgotten society - one that holds fast to tradition. I have been all over Tunisia and have visited most cities and have loved everyone because they each have their own special charm.
The people are so warm and hospitable. They instantly welcome you as one of their own and treat you like family. Tunisia is also a very safe place. There are not many places in this world where a women can walk the streets alone in the middle of the night without fear. Yet I often take late night walks and have never had any problems and have never felt fearful. Tunisia on a whole is a very safe country. I have lived in Tunis and Monastir and have visited other parts of the country without any problems.

I have been in Africa for the first time in December. I went to Morocco. I did not expected I was going to like it so much. What I recommend is going to Marrakech spending two days, then heading to the atlas mountains, to the antiatlas and finally the vallee du Draa and the desert. It's a country of contrasts you will see oasis, sand desert, moon desert, the snow, the forest. There is also a big contrast in between the cities and the villages and in between the atlantic coast and the desert. The whole trip can take a week or ten days. You will find cheap flights with easyjet, ryanair, ba and thomson fly. The guide I recommend if you plan to do your own trip is the Lonely planet

Africa is definitely not for everyone, it offers from the worst to the best, depending on which country you plan to visit. I have toured the world, and spend many years outside of Africa, and i will not live anywhere else but in Africa. I currently work and live in the Sudan, and the red sea diving and fishing from Port Sudan is just great.Political turmoil, fighting, poverty, the list is endless, also plays a role as far as dark side is concerned.(pity)
