The real answer to this is no as stated above, but let me take you as to why it is a no. Each upgrade of the Pentium CPU uses a different FSB (Front Side Bus) speed. This is the speed that reads both to and from the CPU and feeds the information back to the rest of the system. As well as different FSB Speeds, there are also voltage differences, and such. Cooling also becomes a problem with the faster chips, so the motherboards designed to run them are smarter. The computer will not start if the cooling fans are not running. This saves from frying the chips. Another point is the actual RAM that the computer uses. The newer the CPU, the newer the RAM needs to be. Most P$ chips require DDR RAM as a minimum. If any of this is confusing, then please visit my site below and read the section about Identifying Your Computers Parts. Your best bet to get a faster computer is to also see the section about Building Your Own System. These are both located under the Computer Talk section. Hope this helps

I think some Pentium 2 motherboards can 'take' a Pentium 3 processor.

Try the memory first, core duo, basicly 2 proscesers won't really help much, yet more memery always will, your video card sounds like it will do the job, but you might even change that (I would not change eather the cpu or video) before the cpu.
