Puppies are generally weaned at 8 weeks but start offering milk in a bowl at 7 weeks. I offered milk in a heavy low bowl so my puppies had a hard time knocking it over.. but of course they did.. so be sure you feed them on a paper or a washable mat.. thank goodness for washers and dryers. When they get the idea of drinking out of a bowl.. offer milk every day.. Then I would get Purina Puppy Chow and mix it with water and let it really soak in. Pinch a couple pieces to be sure its totally soft and soupy .. and offer a water bowl at all times. Dogs love a drink of water. When eating soft food is learned, and this takes a while. I make a puppy stew in the morning. I scrambled three eggs for five puppies and cooled and chopped it up.. then mixed it in with the puppy chow. They might be interested in very finely chopped left over meat mixed in the chow/gravy meals .. and of course if you offer cooked carrots or other cooked leftover veggies, make sure they are cut up and offered in a separate bowl there are some puppies that like veggies and some not too interested. We have to be careful of what is offered because puppies go for what smells good and they will chew just about anything so no bones because of the splinters. Milk in a bowl will make up for chewing on bones. Look for a bringing up puppy book in your pet section of the department stores. they usually have a general book which can be very helpful when weaning little ones. Librarys also have good puppy books so you might check that out too. Keep alert for dangers and remember that after eating the puppys will be looking for a place to poo.. so this will be the very beginnings of house breaking. This will not be entirely successful but it is a start and will stay imprinted in the puppy mind.. I eat and I poo on paper. Until you can take your puppy out.. ahh.. yes... I couldn't take mine out because of Michigan winters so I made a poo pond for mine with a cheap plastic wading pool .. with a large opening cut on one side.. then I lined it with papers .. of course my whole porch was lined with papers but the wading pool was gradually used the most. I bought one little bottle of house breaking drops and it helped direct them to the poo pond. just a hint for those of us dealing with winter puppies.. I thank my stars for a heated porch and with large folded cotton blankets they were up off the floor to sleep. Good luck with your little ones.

My dog came to me at ten days old. The owner of the dog with the puppies was moving away the next day and getting rid of the puppies. :(
I couldn't see the poor baby just tdying for no reason, so we tried it out. Bought a titty bottle and fed it canned milk, lol, watered down and warm. He loved it. When he got about 5 or 6 weeks old, it's like he couldn't drink the milk anymore, but a local dog breeder told me to buy puppy chow and soak it in water. Make it super moist and soft for the little puppy. He took to it well. He thrived. He's now five years old and about 90 lbs...eek! Big fat doggie. He lives with my parents and my father kills him with kindness..mainly food from the table. Ah well, that's life for Hunter :)

At about 6 weeks. And you should feed it hard puppy food mixed with water to soften it up for a little bit. Not sure what this has to do with newborns though.
