I must have broken mine half a dozen times in rugby and never went off the pitch. Played with a fireman who straightened it up afterwards.

YEp, play on woth anything unlike footballers. I played 3/4 of a game once with broken hand, and didn't Mike Tindall supposedly play a whole season with a broken metatarsal!

Yes this question should be here - asking why footballers are so soft as witnessed by van der Saar

All very good answers! ONly just joined so why I asked now.. I'm not _that_ fat. Jonny Wilkinson is pretty tough - he often tries to tacke players nearly twice his size - and that is why he gets injured.

I agree mate- its simple they are pu**ies and that is all.

I play rugby and have had some bad injuries and played on - some of the injuries you see on telly in rugby matches are horrific, but they play on.
I hate it when a footballer has to leave the field with a pathetic injury such as 'a bruised hip' or a 'bent earing !' Worst part is when they then miss 3 weeks to recover !!

The so called hardmen of football always resort to off the ball stuff to - anybody can elbow another player when he is not looking. Roy Keane a hard man ?? Yeah he gave alfie haarland what for when he was looking didnt he !!

Further to a few answers on here Rugby players are no longer the big fat pie eaters they are finely tuned athletic machines who have to put hours upon hours in the gym, training and conditioning their bodies to take the strains put upon them - WITHOUT MOANING THEY ARE PLAYING TO MUCH !!!! Toughness is part of the game - both menntal and physical , there isnt 1 rugby player who isnt mentally tough otherwise he wouldnt even be able to play the game ! Football involves no mental toughness in my opinion !

Rugby players also are well above average intelligence (a few exceptions i accept). Becham is a fine example of footballers intelligence !!!

I would say that spectators of rugby would agree that they get FAAAAAAR more value for money when they go to watch a game and are not ripped off watching a bunch of pansies call each other names and comparing their new tattoos and earings !!!

We do our talking on the pitch in a way footballers and its fans will never be able to mimic or understand

Oh and Arcadia - Why do the womens offices where I work mainly contain calenders of an certain Mr J Wilkinson ? Not that I approve of course !

overpaid premadonnas and pansies !!

Rugby players are trained to be tough. Footballers are trained to be skillful, and graceful while on the ball. Anyway, there are SOME tough footballers, and weak rugby players. For example, Johnny Wilkinson and Gavin Henson are not gonna win worlds strongest man any time soon (Even, Gavin, if the prize is a years supply of hair gel!) Roy Keane, Vinnie Jones and Ronaldo (not Cristiano cos hes a ballerina) are tough, and can use their strength at times, so I believe that you can not say that ALL footballers are weak, cos there are some exceptions, and vise versa with rugby

If your referring to Edwin Van Der Sar, He was knocked unconscious when Robbie Keane`s Football Boot collided with him and not forgetting, he was kept in HOSPITAL over night. Maybe we care more about our FOOTBALL PLAYER`S Injuries. But then I suppose it`s not that often that our Football Players play with firemen!! Why have you have waited so long before asking your Question, or have you just been reminded what happened to him because Manchester United have an Important Game this afternoon against Reading and you have seen we have got Thomas Kuszczak in goal! So you thought ( if you are still capable of having one) come on lets have a pop at Van Der Sar, Well Bad Luck.

Rugby players are so hideously ugly that a broken nose makes no difference to them, so they may as well play on. Also, the pain takes longer to register in a rugby player's brain, because they are simpler.

Are you trying to say the footballer you're referring to is Van Der Saar of Manchester United???

If you're talking about rugby, then just post your question to the rugby part, not in soccer!

dude, I play rugby. I will damn near break myself in half, I'll (slowly) get up and play on. Black eye, no worries. Split lip, who cares? Nabs been crunched (*cry softly*), then get up. but break my nose man, even just hit it and no blood, I'm lost. Eyes well up and i lose all sense of bravado. But at least I have a few girls to comfort me...
