I currently have 6.71 GB Space on my Archos Gmini 400 and wondered if I could fit ubuntu on it?

Yes, no problems.

2GB should be fine and then you need an extra 1GB for the swap drive. So you should have no problem fitting it on there!

ubuntu will run off the CD, and requires less than 2 gigs if installed.

linux is small by comparison to any windows product. i use freespire; linux Xp 07... small and perfectly formed.

Use Ubuntu Live CD, you don't need to install it to your Harddisk. It run/boot directly from CD.
