Modernisation means what?

Development in technology is modernisation. I son't think that can harm our values in any ways. It's the same with Industrialisation, globalisation, economical policies, food chains, shopping malls, etc.

Ah... What you are talking about is the Indians forgetting their values under that label of modernisation. Well in that case that is just a label they are using to do whatever they want and humilate the others by calling them primitive if ever they condemn thes so called modern people.

Wearing revealing outfits, speaking a foriegn language, or speaking in a different accent is not modernisation. It is a personal preference that a person makes under the label of modernisation. And it is this sick mentallity due to which India has suffered econimical loss.

For example there was a golden period when India was known to be wealthiest nation. Has anyone ever analyized the reasons for the collapse of economy? At that period India was particularly an agricultural nation. It used to export a lot of agricultural products. But later on people started thinking that agriculture is not as cool as working in a mill. Result - Now India has to import few agricultural products that it used to export. Industrialisation developed with a boom taking up the uncultivated agricultural land. Untill finally government had to enforce policies to retain the cultivated agricultural land. Cos farmers wanted to jump from their agriculture business to industries.

It's high time we give some thought to modernisation and understand. No country in this world has flourished by giving up there own values. Look at China and Japan. They develop without giving up their culture. European countries never gave up their values. The americans, who are descendants of europeans never gave up their values. They uprooted the inhabitants over the landmass and developed.

India is the only country whose ethics are accepted and acknowledged by most of the people worldwide. Why do we need to forget them?

:-)

Outdated values should be removed from the society for the development of the country. Now it is an IT era, where we have to follow that, similar the other values as well. If you say the IT implementation will destroy the values, not acceptable. Electronics world, modernisation of the other area too the same. There will be some minus effects also. against that we have shut our eyes, that will be good.

I do not agree with this. Indian culture is still in the blood of every Indian. Modernisation has been accepted by Indian for the purpose of improvement in economy of the country. Taking over Cores Ltd. by TATA does not mean that Tata has also changed the existing policy of their company. It is applicable to most of the aspects of Indian society. After all what are Indian values & what are foreign values. These are the concept one has made in its own mind. Value of fashion show & beauty contests has been increased in India, does not mean the value of Indian culture has been reduced.
India is the only country in the world which has accepted western style/values for the development of certain fields by keeping thier own culture untouched. You can judge yourself by big beauty shows, fastion shows which has given boost to this Industry organsied in India or organised by Indian at abroad. However, Indian celebreties have made Indian sarees famous by wearing the same at world platform. You can see many of the foreign tourists wearing Indian dresses of different states during their visit to India. They still like Indian food and demands Indian food in their own country also.
It does show that Indian values are still carrying good value in the world.

Majority of Global Population are leading a Normal Family Life like India.
Did you see any Leader seeing People's agony , wept and shed Tears.
To my knowledge 4 Leaders
Hon'ble . Mr.Tony Blair - shed Tears openly in Public for his Responsibility as a father to his Son too.
Hon,Ble Mr.Putin - when the staff in submarine died due to suffocation
Mr.Nelson Mandela - Seeing the people's emotion during his relese from Jail.
Shri. M.G.Ramachandan - M.G.R. - Same like by seeing People's emotion on his safe return from USA after the treatment - He and His wife. Smt.Janaki wept , seeing peoples emotion.
so All are Living in same way . But Indians stress that Living shud set an example. It is a Good initiative , I too agree.

By interfering other countries own culture is always wrong, and never will they honor the traditions.

India as a country to be able to make things cheap, and then import things to rich countries is ideal target for large international compnies seeking profit neglecting workers as humen beings. India even has a culture of first, second and "not at all" citizens, wich makes it easy to use and throw avay employees as they were nothing; because they are taught to understand that they are nothing in their own culture from the start.

in general, I would not call importing wall marts, mc donalds, idol-shows, reality tv:s and other junk as a "Progess" to any country no matter how primitive it was.

It is good to review your values, and compare the to other modern countries. See which a valuable values and which are old and out dated values. Values fair to all people [race and sec] not to a limited group in society.

No harm being modern. If Krishna is born ( incarnation) today, in our household, he will go to school wearing a tie. That is true. We have to live with the times.

It will only take away those "values" that need to go anyway.
The good ones will only become stronger, as people become better educated, healthier, and more self-reliant.

It is true to some extent. People started disliking and rejecting the centuries old culture, tradition and teachings of ::: unequality among human beings based on their birth castes (The Holy Bhagavad Gita, Chapter-18 Verses 40-47)::: getting their wives impregnated by pious priests (Nyoga) ::: consuming cow urine as sacred liquid ::: worshipping genitals (penis & vagina) of holy dieties in temples (The Holy Shiva Linga & yoni) ::: compelling widows to burn on the fire (pyre) of their deceased husbands (Sati) ::: refusing interitence succession to daughters ::: child marriages ::: telling lies for gain or to escape loss ::: demanding & taking cash, gold, silver, costly clothes/articles, flats/houses etc. from brides' parents as dowry for marrying ::: killing brutally or burning alive on failure to fulfill further dowry demands, etc. etc.
