Looking at some of the responses in another question, I'm curious how many people still hang out with people they used to date after you've broken up.

If you do, would you consider them among your closest friends or just another acquaintance?
If you don't, have you simply drifted apart, or do you find yourself avoiding them?

(I recognize that each relationship is unique, and there will be cases where each answerer may have taken each of these approaches with different people, but I'm more curious about each person's overall approach to people they used to date.)

Some of my exes I avoid like the plague but we don't generally run in the same circles which might have been the problem in the first place! One in particular, I am still very close with. We were together five years and he is sixteen years my senior but we have so much in common. He is a cad and a bounder though so the relationship stuff is a no-go. Still, I consider him to be one of my best friends. Others are people I run into occasionally and have a chat or maybe meet for coffee.

Yes. One guy in particular is a great friend. He lives in the States so we've only seen each other a couple of times. Purely platonic encounters and a lot of fun. I'm odd and he's weird so we laugh a lot. Our tel cons and emails are almost more fun than what we did while dating.

No, we broke up for a reason. I never wanted to see them again.
