I'm on my 3rd month of Yasmin and I plan on switching to a progesterone-only pill. I was on Dianette before and both pills have given me mild IBS. I'm suffering from bouts of diarrhea and constipation, and can't seem to go out for a few drinks without ending up keeled over in pain from trapped wind. I'm just concerned after reading up on how to switch pills, it says if you suffer from diarrhea or vomiting the pill may lose effectiveness. If i've been getting diarrhea once a week or more often...has this all been a total waste of time?? I mean I use condoms as well but...Have I been putting myself through this only to get no protection??

the LOW DOSE pills cause more side effects?? does that include progesterone-only pills? my doctor refuses to put me on anything stronger than yasmine, i'm not in a high risk group or anything but she just doesn't like giving it out. surely progesterone-only pills are meant to have LESS side effects?

Well first off let me say I think Yasmin is the worst birth control pill ever. It did horrible things to me. Second, yes diarrhea does make any birth control pill less effective. You are supposed to use a back up method the rest of the month when you have it.

I had a lot less stomach side effects switching to a higher progesterone less estrogen birth control pill. If you read up on it, some of these new low dose pills have higher risks and more side effects. But that is only for certain types of pills.

Progesterone only pills are only 95% effective as to compared to 99% effectiveness of combination pill.

Yes, the pills do become less effective if you vomit or have diarrhea. You need to do some reasearch. Find out the best pill for you, and that includes talking to your doctor. Some people have bad reactions to pills, and others don't. It's your body chemistry. Well, I am on Aleese...it doesn't seem to give me any effects. But it is a "generic" brand. The pills are a good idea, they add more protection than just the condom. I didn't like the feeling of just using a condom, I worried every month. So keep trying. You'll find one that works great.

I got pregnant on the pill twice. My doctor tried to convince me the first time that I must have forgotten to take a pill even though I knew I didn't. The second time he did a test to find out that I ovulate twice a month. It's very rare, but it can happen, OBVIOUSLY!! Anyways, I just don't trust the pill!!!

Pls get in touch with your dr about your concerns. Yasmin is the U.S. equivalent to Dianette as Dianette is not allowed in the U.S.
