how do u install an outside light?

i need to install a security light i never have done this before please help

BUY a DUSK to DAWN light and all you have to do is MOUNT it where you want it to go. It will turn on and off by itself.

If you are just replacing an existing fixture, like a porch light, just switch off the breaker, take down the old fixture and install the new one.

If you don't already have power to the place you want to put the light, you're going to have some work to do. You'll have to run the wires to the location. You can't leave standard household wire exposed to the elements outside. So you may have to run some conduit, or under ground wiring.

If you aren't comfortable with wiring, call an electrician.

A simple light swap: All you have to do is remove old light color code wires and rehang.
If you do not have a light already you will need to install wire
first determine where you will get power (ex: light switch, outlet,or your panel) you will need to run 14-2 or 12-2 romex depending on the wire size where you are getting your power.
Second run wire to light. you will want to install a round remodel junction box for your light. then color code wires to light and hang.
Make sure power is off when you are working on it
