Good question. I'm a straight 38-year-old married woman. I've always thought that sexual orientation was not a choice. When I was a girl and started having sexual feelings my brain and body just responded to males. The same exact thing happens to gay people except they respond to the same gender. I've never understood why people don't understand this. I didn't "choose" to be heterosexual. It's not a choice. Just like I can't simply say "oh, I think I'm going to become a lesbian". You can't control what gender (or what particular person) you're attracted to. Like I hate anchovies. I can't get up one day and say "oh, I think I'm going to choose to like anchovies". It's absurd. People who believe this are boneheads.

Of course not! Everyone knows most straight people are ignorant and expect gays to do the things that they themselves could and would not ever do. They are hypocrites. I once thought about writing a book about what would happen to the world if suddenly one day everyone woke up and the gay people were straight and the straight people were gay and how it affects peoples opinion of it. Hey, maybe I should finish that book. It basically just shows that the majority will always think it is right and that anyone that goes against it is wrong. I just wish that there was some possible way on this Earth that I could show the hypocritical straight people exactly what kind of stress, oppression, and pure anguish that they cause gay people to suffer just because they want to state what they "think" as fact. Something that they have absolutely no knowledge about: being gay! How can a person that sees explain the color red to a blind man? Same thing. They can't. In fact, it's something they know nothing about. Now spread this across the world and affect 10% of the population. Now take away all rights, such as having kids, adoption, marriage, having a will that is recognized for the spouse, eternity in heaven, gay bashing, gay suicide, hate crimes toward gays, killing gays, the list goes on and on, all because straight people SAY that it is a choice. If it was a choice, then answer me this simple question? Why is there such a thing as being in the closet? Why would anyone CHOOSE to be discrimated against if it was easy as, "oh yeah, I take it back, I was just kidding, my bad, I'm not gay....ha, ha...joke's on me!....come on, people, wake up and smell the obviousness that staring you in the freaking face.

I have a lot of gay friends and some have said if they had the choice, they wouldn't wish to be gay. Only because of society.
I am of the belief that a person is born gay or lesbian, it is not a choice.

The only "CHOICE" is whether or not you are going to acknowledge it. I was married to a woman and living a lie. I was not gay active while married to her, but it made her miserable, me miserable and she tried to tell me I was gay. I would not have it. Later, when I finally had to admit to myself that I was, I decided "why am I not allowed to be happy and have a happy life?" I "chose" to embrace rather than repress my sexuality. That is the only choice. I would never presume to condemn what two adults do in private. If there IS a moral question, it is between them and their God.
EITHER PERSUASION: Keep your sex life private. I'm not interested in ANYONE'S details. A lot of people seem to think it is alright to talk about their sex life to coworkers, family, friends etc., unasked.

I asked a question along the same lines, but went straight to the point and it got deleted.
You are either a man or woman. You will have physical characteristics in case your not sure. Look in your pants if in doubt.
If you disagree with these features then I think there's some part of the brain that's gone wrong or there's a chemical misbalance somewhere.

I'm gay & if i would have had the 'choice' not to be I would have grabbed it as a teenager as it was a horrible thing to go through until I got my head around it & realised that this is simply who I am and that no matter how hard I tried it wasn't going away-these days I'm older & wiser & proud of who I am & wouldn't have wanted my life any other way.

The people who say “it’s a choice” are bisexuals No straight man would say he has the choice to get sexually turned on by another man and have sex. The only people who could possibly make that choice are bisexual, so their statement says a lot about themselves doesn’t it.

It would seem that those saying "being being Gay/lesbian is a personal choice" know so little about the subject that your question is, unfortunately, not worth answering.

Nobody chooses to be gay, you are what you are and im sure there are gay/bi people out there that would give their right teeth to be able to chose!!!
Being gay is not a choice, it is something you are born with, just certain people feel they have to supress it.
Pity. oh, I agree with u :0) not sure if I made that clear!!!

why would people choose to be discriminated against.i sure didn't but you have to play the hand you are dealt.people think it is either because of genetics or else because of the conditions you are forced to live with,i think however that saying being close to boys makes you gay is bullshit because i lived the majority of my life alone with very little to take care of me............
