How come teachers are poorly paid and hardly appreciated???? I work as a nursery teacher, and I´m standing alone with 20 toddlers (2 years-old) and only feel somewhat appreciated by 3 parents ..I know, I get a salary and they pay for their kid´s education...but I mean, come on, I take care of your kid 8 hours per day, from Monday till Friday..and what is more precious to you than your child????

National Teacher Day is always the 2nd Tuesday in May http://www.nea.org/teacherday/index.html . Some also make this first full week in May (when the Tuesday falls) National Teacher Appreciation Week (see this search for all sorts of links about it http://www.ask.com/web?q=Teacher+appreciation+week&o=ie7&l=dir ). Although it isn't always observed - it definately does exist.

Good Luck!!!

Teacher's Appreciation Day is normally celebrated on the second Tuesday of May, I believe.

In our district our "presents" keep getting cheaper and cheaper. The Superintendant will get some money from somewhere to buy us something. Used to be cool stuff, like faux leather organizers and naoprene water bottles. Last year it was a pen.

Teachers are not highly paid because of the negative stigmas by a typical community. My theory is that because someone went to school at some point, that person feels they can teach a class. The general public has absolutely no idea how hard and demanding the teaching profession can be. All they see is July and August, which lowers their teacher-pay budget.

Until these people walk a mile in our shoes, they'll never change.

It exists in India. Is on 5th Sept.
That day children in schools pay their respects to the teachers. Entertain them, and the Senior students take over teaching the classes for a Day.

It is so sad that Teachers are no longer given respect. They are paid poorly. When the education and character of the future generations of the country depends on them.

I think teachers need to be taken care of by the Community.

There are a lot of reasons for the question. First, because of the great number of them, the government cannot manage to pay them. Second, the authorities don't pay much attention to the common cause, especially in developing countries where the worldly interests are so great. But Teachers' Day exists, though it is not always appreciated. Sometimes the day brings much more nuisance than happiness because it can ruin the dignity of the teaching career.

May 9, 2007 is Teacher's Day in the USA; other countries mya use different dates.

Teachers are porrly paid because taking care of children is not considered "serious" work...much like mothers go unpiad. In fact, modern North American society is pretty anti-child.

There is a teacher's day in the US. I believe it takes place around the first week of May. My school's PTA always provides the teacher's with a big Panera Bread luncheon on that day. Beats the heck out of our school lunches!!

And I do agree with you. if there is someone who'll be as proud of your achievements as your parents, its your teacher. I used to make card myself and give them with flowers to my fav.teachers on that day.

MODIFY: Spain's not on the list? Talk to local Hallmark's and send a few letters to the newspaers ! what else can I say? I mean, teachers forge the future of mankind, They shouldn't be shortchanged like that.
