you can put it on the floor, then crawl around and he might follow you, turn your head he might copy, and try different things and he might copy.
You can also make him find things like food, put little obstacles around in a small enclosed area and hide the food and see if he can find it. or make a maze out of cardboard or something.

After bringing home and placing your turtle in its already-established tank, let it get used to its new surroundings for several days. It may spend the first couple of days closed tight in its shell, or may quickly withdraw when it sees you looming overhead or approaching the enclosure.

During this time, put fresh food out every day and make sure the water stays warm and clean. After a while, the healthier turtle will begin to explore its surroundings, and may begin to watch the goings-on around it. When you pick up the turtle, support its body with both hands. Turtles feel more secure when they can feel something beneath their feet; "swimming" in air is stressful to them. Let them feel your hands or fingers beneath their feet, not just their plastron (bottom shell). A two-handed carry will also help ensure that they will not suffer a potentially crippling--or fatal--fall.

When your children's hands are big enough, teach them the proper way to hold and carry the turtle and how to properly wash their hands after handling the turtle. If they have been playing with any other animals before they go to handle the turtle, they should wash their hands before handling the turtles, as well as afterwards.

Generally speaking, turtles are not appropriate pets for young children. The higher risk of infection aside, the care and feeding is more complicated than is generally thought, and the daily maintenance of the enclosure, enclosure apparatus and feeding soon gets boring for most kids. (Some adults, too, are dismayed to find that they can't just stick the turtle in a box or tank of water or let them loose in their yard, tossing lettuce to it once in a while.) When obtained for a child, the parent must acknowledge and accept their primary responsibility for the care of the turtle and routinely check it regularly for any signs or symptoms of illness.

Scientists believe that many cold-blooded animals, especially turtles and tortoises, can live almost forever as they show no signs of aging as they get older. They die from being successfully attacked by one of their few natural predators, from the poisoning, intolerably alteration or destruction of their natural habitat, and from improper care in captivity

A sink with toys....a maze...hide its food...These are the reasons that 99% of pet turtles die within the first 2 years.

Please listen to Reptile Boy and Snake Girl. Turtles especially aquatic turtles like your res (red eared sliders) don't do well on land. Yes they can walk on land. Yes they can handle it. But once use to an environment, like a tank, removing them from the environment just adds stress. Stressed turtles get sick. Although it can be tempting to take the cute little buggers out, I would only recomend doing so for cleaning, feeding (keeps the tank clean to feed outside of it), or for a highly necessary reason. Every time you handle your turtles you place them at risk for sickness.

In all honesty, you really don't... Most reptiles don't like to be "played with," though some tolerate it fairly well. Water turtles tend to stress easily, and REALLY don't care for much human interaction. Some may grow to tolerate handling for short periods, but it's generally better for the animal if you just leave it be.

It is not a good idea to play with turtles- it stresses them out and exposes you to Salmonella unnecessarily.

Think about it- if a giant alien creature wanted to 'play' with you, would you be happy about it?

it's simple
gently scratch on it's shell with ur fingers not nails or
put it on ur hand and let it walk on it or
show it different types of face expressions like blinking one eye
if it is comfortable with u it will do the same thing back(my turtle does it sometimes)

thats it
but don't play with it for a longer time
it becomes stressful for a turtle

Well when i had mine(i released it) i used to take it out side to a log or a sandbox and let it crawl around.They also like to sunbathe.It will just lay in the sun for hours.

well u culd take some cushions nd play maze wit them lik i play wit my red ears.they love it.or u culd take some food of turtles in ur finger nd watch them hop.they enjoy nd start trusting u better playin tat game.or u culd fill ur sink wit water nd put some toys in there.they love playin in sinks wit toys.hope this was helpful.
