Democracy means the people vote for their reprasentatives. A Democratic Republic is a Democracy. We are a Constitutional Monarchy which is also a Democracy. Don't confuse the way reps are empowered with the system they work in.

Actually our Constitution declares that we are a Republic, but many people use Democracy to emphasize the democratic system of laws we cherish. However, a true Democracy would be a "majority rule" system, where the Majority make Laws and interpret them, with no regard to fairness or concern for the minority groups. In our Republic, the government must follow the Law and represent "all people" accordingly. See below for more info.

Republic is Democracy in Greek. Essentially a system of government based on elections.
Demos is people in Greek, like public, people etc.
The People's Democratic Republic of Korea is nonsense, linguistically, philosophically, politically and morally.
I wouldn't call the USA any of these words. Union suits me just fine.

The blame lies with the liberals.....they seem to think that the U.S. is some kind of a democracy, and that is the furthest thing from the minds of the founding fathers of this country. It was founded to be a Republic. Every blasted democracy that ever tried to get off the ground, failed.
