Manual. The kind that cuts the side of the top of the can. It makes a perfect lid and no sharp edges.

Manual. My daughter has never used an electric can opener. She babysat for my stepson one night, she went to open a can and couldn't find a can opener in all the draws. She called me up, told me the problem. I laughed and told her to look on the counter. She used her first electric can opener at 18 yrs old.

Depends on you. Personally, I prefer the manual. The electrical ones are very difficult to clean.
