It's neither necessary nor desirable. The whole cleanliness bit is garbage - you can be just as clean with a foreskin as without; ALL of us need to wash!
Circumcision cuts down on sexual pleasure for men. In fact, that's why it became popular in the anti-sex 19th Century--it was considered a "cure" for oversexed boys feeling the need to masturbate. [It didn't work.] It is male genital mutilation and should be outlawed, the same as female genital mutilation rightly is outlawed in most countries.
It also cuts down on sexual pleasure for your female partner. Some 90% of women who have had sex with both mutilated (circumcised) and intact men prefer the uncut men in terms of sexual satisfaction. See http://www.healthcentral.com/drdean/408/60750.html
It's very painful, and you end up with a penis that doesn't function as well. You still need to wash! Where's the upside?
Some guys say I don't know because I've never been cut. Why would I let someone mutilate my body when there is such overwhelming evidence that it's harmful? I don't jump off tall buildings either, but I still know it's harmful. I'll keep my penis the way God/Nature made it.

No, it's not at all needed. In fact, about 85% of the worlds' guys are uncircumcised. The US is the only industrialized (rich) nation to do it on boys. It's only preferred in the US because most people seem to be brainwashed that it's healthier and better looking, when it fact comparable advanced nations have lower HIV and STD rates. The circ rates have been going down for decades, and as of 2003, only 55% of boys were getting circumcised, with the West coast only having 30%. Circumcision also has negative side effects, as does anything.

It is not necessary , provided a man cleans the foreskin frequently. Circumcision does, however, prove to reduce the likelihood of developing HIV, AIDS, and other STDs. The disadvantage of circumcision is the loss of sensation the frenulum provides.
