My understanding is that pineapple, fresh not tinned, can help ripen the cervix due to the enzymes in it, but that it soes not actually bring on labour.

Raspberry leaf tea contains good levels of iron and calcium, strengthening the womb muscles and so when you do have contractions they will be more efficient. But it will nopt bring on labour.

If you are overdue, the best thing is to relax and also work out if anything phychological is stopping baby from coming, and overcome that.

Your hormones need to be balanced to trigger labour off. This requires that you have good levels of zinc. Many women in the UK have very low zinc levels due to it not being present any more in produce etc due to intensive farming. Zinc is essential for hormone production as well as recovery after birth. You should take 30mg zinc a day which is safe in pregnancy.

A safe and reliable method to start labour is to fill a warm bath, add 10 drops clary sage essential oil mixed with a bit of almond and olive oil (after the bath has run) and relax in the bath. Your labour should start within a day at most. But this method is only if you are overdue.

Good luck

You should never do anything like this without consulting your doctor, with that said, there is an herb called blue cohosh that can be found at the oganic health store. It produces the cramps that bring on labor, and is used frequently with midwife services when a woman is more than a week late. A friend of mine was induced this way, and her baby was born the following morning. Also, sex and "sperm" can induce labor, if you are comfortable enough to do that at this point! As for pineapple, you would have to eat fresh pineapple, and I've heard horror stories from other women who broke into sever itching from eating too much pineapple while pregnant to induce labor. Not worth it, I'm sure (She was hospitalized, but did not go into labor!) Just try to tough it out~ but I understand your pain. Believe me when I say, though, that you will miss being pregnant with this little one someday, and you can never turn back time. Savor every minute of this close time together. Good luck to you!

My boyfriend and I had sex a week before I was due and my contractions started twenty mins later! It's apparently the sperm that triggers the contractions. If you're planning this though make sure you've dropped because it can make the labour last longer otherwise. I've been told this by other people not by anyone in the medical profession so don't know how true this is.

This is what I did and it worked.
Firstly I drank raspberry tea three times
then ate FRESH Pineapple
Then did half hour on a step machine
Then hoovered the house
Cleaned the bathroom
In the evening I ate a curry
Then had sex
My waters broke in the morning and I had my little boy 16 hours later.

Dont ask me which one did it as I think it was a combination of it all!!!!

Good luck and all the best

Pineapple has a enzyme in it called bromelain. It has to be fresh pineapple though.. Apparently that enzyme helps to break down the cervix. There is not enough proof to support this claim, though lots of women swear by it. Not working for me though.. I have eaten lots of the stuff, plus walking, running up stairs, spicy food, sex. I have been having bouts of false labour since Monday and still nothing.. Good luck! Xx

I tried lots of things to induce labor myself being I was over a week due. But nothing worked for me, and I can tell you I ate TONS of pineapple all throughout my pregnancy and it did nothing. I didn't even know pineapple could bring on labor until I researched methods. One thing I didn't try was spicy food because I was having heart burn like crazy and no way was I going to make it worse. But I have heard that works for alot of women. I ended up having to be induced by a doctor, it wasn't so bad.

I have heard, read, and TRIED it all. It doesn't work, not unless some of these things have some kind of placebo effect for some women. If your baby is ready he will come. If not, you should really talk to your OB before trying any of these "remedies". He'll know how to induce labor appropriately and when to do so. Good Luck! It'll all be over eventually, one way or another.
