Australia and South Africa are now joint No 1 in 1 Day cricket with 128 points each. Which is the better team?

Australia, is clearly the best team at the moment CURRENTLY. They have proven batsman who have the capabilities to take over matches, at any stage and bowlers who can take wickets while clamping down on runs.

Sure England won the Commonwealth Bank Series in two matches, but Australia was playing with a team which was hampered by injuries (Andrew Symonds) and little niggles which have kept players out of the Chappell-Haddle trophy (Ricky Ponting and Michael Clarke).

South Africa on the other hand have been beating teams who are out of form, out of luck, and out of skill. India and Pakistan both looked a mess against the completely different wickets in South Africa (the tests were much closer, and those were played on flatter, more sub-continental pitches). Pakistan is a very good one-day team, however when they play away from the sub-continent, they are very very ordinary. On the other hand, New-Zealand are comfortable playing in Australia, and England spent over three months, in Australia, giving them a chance to finally become accustomed to the conditions, and capitalizing on an old, injured and tired Australian team.

However Australia have bounced back before (see 2005 Ashes, Johnnie Walker Super Series). And it is highly likely, that they bounce back again, in time for the world cup.

At present South Africa is a better team. That is why they could catch up with Australia to No. 1 spot.

Australia have really had a good few years. But that is going to change because South Africa is the BEST! We have a stronger team and this time there will be no mistakes, if S.A. reaches the semi finals then there is no stopping them.
