i got falk navigator 2004 with my pda (built in antenna) and this worked great for out of car.
now have tom tom 5 but need an external antenna to find a signal.

the rest depends on your budget basically, a look on ebay will find plenty of older models, usually with tom tom 3 or navigator 4.
there are many now with built in antennas which would be the best idea for a 'walkabout'
the 'main' ones are basically all the same with different names.
the typhoon myguide 3500 go
mitac mio 168
yakuma delta 300 gps
one of the navmans
and a medion i cannot remember the model number off hand.

the 168 will command a higher price but they are all the same.
tom tom 5 is by far the better util but it seems to struggle to recognise PDA's as GPS units.

There are 3 to choose from either an all-in one, a pda+software+Bluetooth Gps receiver. or Most mobile phones that have bluetooth and you can hook up a Gps receiver. I have a Nokia N73, downloaded smart2go (free) and all i need is a gps receiver, but i'm looking for a cheap one.

You can also get a 12 month subcription based satnav for example co pilot live.
