No, I don't see how that could work. I think he'll wake up and go and see the how the '70s character have turned out in '07 including Gene, but I don't think he is Gene.

Wouldn't it be more appropriate for Gene Hunt to be Gene Genie? He's not really disguising his identity very well, keeping the same first name!
