Iron Man is a white guy. (He was invented in the early sixties, before the Civil Rights movement had made it necessary to have black people in all superhero comics.) His friend, James "Rhodey" Rhodes, is black; for a while, at the height of the Civil Rights movement, Rhodey actually took over as Iron Man, leaving Tony to be just an industrialist. These days, Rhodey is a sort of Iron Man clone called War Machine; his costume is black and white instead of red and gold.
