Hi, im 13 weeks pregnant and and two/three weeks ago a midwife visited me at home to fill in those green pregnancy notes that i now have to take to every appointment. Whilst she was here I had my first set of bloods done. This apparently included a HIV test which I agreed to having because I know im not at any risk. Anyway she told me that women got a bit funny about it being sent back to their GP with their other results so this one would be sent directly to me through the post..........only I havent recieved it yet. Im now 13 weeks pregnant so its been a few weeks and although im not worried about the result I am a bit concerned that its gone to the wrong address. Bit embarrasing. Anyway what i'll do is call my midwife this tuesday and ask her but she is unavailible until then so I thought id ask you guys how long your results took to come back to you in the post?? Thanks guys x x x

Guys thanks for your response so far but to be hones its not a case of only being informed if something is wrong. My midwife assured me that either way I would learn the results through the post and also it may vary where you live as to the system that your local NHS provides but my midwife said they definately come to your home first because having agreed to get it done its also confidential. I agree that the other tests will go to the surgery but she assured me mine would come here first.Just thought id add this to stop others from keep replying with I'll only hear if something is wrong.....thanks guys

HIV can take a few weeks to come back as it is often sent to a bigger lab - it is a more complicated test than many of the others, so don't worry. Your midwife should be able to ring up and find out about the result - is it possible it went to your old address or something? Make sure they have your correct details on file

I was the same way with my first pregnancy. I was so much more scared of the needles than of giving birth. I cried all the way through my first blood test and yes it hurt but not nearly as bad as i had thought it would (Although I still cry when I know I have to have blood drawn). The anxiety is really worse than the procedure. Ask for a butterfly needle (what they use on children) they hurt way less. Also do not look. It feels like a sharp sting that lasts just a second or two and then just kind of an uncomfortable feeling when the needle is in your arm, again much less uncomfortable with a butterfly needle. Good luck!

Hi don,t worry bout them they will come to you throught the post like your midwife says. It will take about a month though if i remember correctly. i think mine came back just before my 20 week scan. When you get them just take them with you to your next antenatal appointment so you r midwife can check them.
It puzzles me why some women would be funny about them bein sent to the gp. I did,nt understand any of it then had to take them to the doctor,s myself anyway. Anyway good luck.

hi, i have just had mine done on wednesday and was told that the blood test to find out your blood group takes around a week the others usually take around 2-3 weeks so i wouldnt worry about it. your midwife should get a copy aswell so if you are still worried just give her a ring, her number should be on your maternity notes.

I think she or you made a mistake to be honest - the tests will go back to your doctor first - if they find anything wrong THEN they contact you direct and invite you to the surgery - you haven't heard than that is good news - nothing abnormal found!
Enjoy being pregnant
