Ps2 slim , india problems?

Question

at india , i bought a ps2 slim and lasted 10 - 11 months ...
After that it would't read any disks. lens problem
I india there are pirated cds and the ps2 slims out here work with them...
My friends have also the same problem some repaired it and the same happened in 5 to 6 months...
I guess i india they change the software to accept pirated cds , Is it true?

the workaround to get your ps2 to read pirated dvd's is to install a chip on it's motherboard, this means you have 2 open it, hence your warranty is void.
if you bought a legitimate version, you'd till b covered under warranty. find out from whom you bought if your PS2 was chipped.
