The one child policy is successful because it is one of the methods for stopping the population explosion.

It could be successful if ever completely implemented. In the governmental document titled Agenda 22, population control is discussed after it recognizes the expanding world population is the #1 threat to the environment.

Keep in mind that one child policies like in China to not mean you can't have more than one child. They only mean if you have more, you must pay for their education, etc.. and not the state.

one-child policy of china is seemingly working in the status quo, but there are some assessments about the setback of this policy in the long run...first, the 1-2-4 theory, this means for every one kid there are two parents and four grandparents that will look after them, though to think at first it would be good for kids but recent surveys conducted in mainland china shows that it makes children stubborn and spoiled as they grew up because of too much attention are paid to them...second, is the adverse effect to the rate of working class, it can be best seen in japan where the government is shouldering much burden because of its huge number of retirees but lacking number of the following younger generation, this is feared in china where the population of older people are growing tremendously.

There shouldn't be a policy saying how many children people should have. It's a personal choice.
