I am able to connect to internet on main comp.. but not able to browse internet on other PC.. also unable to access files on the main comp from the other comp...

i did make the def gateway as the IP address of the other comp

You can... u just have to connect both the PCs using a Hub or maybe a Wi-Fi system...
But a Wi-fi system for just 2 systems would be costlier than using a HUB

Are they connected to a router? Just run the networking wizard in communications in the accessories! Follow the directions!
FORGET the hub! Buy a router!

make the IP of the first computer as a gateway for the second one
