All you need is a map of the country and you're all set to wander about yourselves. The public transport system in Singapore is really great and easy to use. When you arrive at Changi Airport in Singapore, you can check out the some of the tours they provide for free. However, if you're planning to DIY, here's some places you may want to visit and some tips to make your holiday more enjoyable.

1. Sentosa
- for the beach, sun and sea
- there are many other attractions there such as the luge, the Underwater World, Fort Siloso...

2. Orchard Road
- for shopping, shopping and more shopping

3. Clarke Quay
- for some night life at the pubs, bars and clubs

4. Chinatown, Little India
- for the rich culture

5. Fort Canning
- for the history

6. Pulau Ubin
- one of Singapore's southern islands
- for some trekking, biking....

When you come to Singapore, prepare loose fitting pants! The food here is excellent and there is a wide variety of food. You can have traditional Chinese, Indian, Malay, Western and Arab food. Also, for some Singaporean dishes, all you need to do is check out the hawker centres or food courts that are all over this tiny island.

* Don't go Newton Circus, it's a tourist trap - you pay exorbitant rates for average dishes.
* Don't take trishaw rides - they're another tourist trap. Locals just use the taxis, buses and trains to get around.
* Most Singaporeans speak English (though you might find it slightly difficult understanding due to the accent and the usage of Singlish - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/singlish)...
* If you're going to be using the buses and trains, you'll need to get an ez-link card which you can purchase at any train station. Or you can keep coins handy. It's cheaper to pay via ez-link though.
* Some Singaporean fare you might want to try out (beware, most are rather unhealthy):
a. Chilli/Black Pepper/Steamed Crab
b. Indian/Chinese Rojak
c. Char Kway Teow
d. Hainanese Chicken Rice
e. Milo Dinosaur/Godzilla/T-Rex

I have a few websites here which you might want to check out as they will provide much more information on Singapore than I can in yahoo answers. and I'm sorry for the messy structure of this answer, there's just so much to write. :D Hope you enjoy your stay in Singapore!

p.s: those 2 sites above should be enough as they link you to many others should you need more information

Countries around Singapore to visit:
1. Malaysia
a. KL, Jarkata, Meleka, Johor Bahru
- for the shopping and city (which you might have enough of in Singapore)
b. Tioman, Redang
- for the sun, beach and sea

2. Indonesia

3. Thailand

Singapore is a great location to explore Southeast Asia (SEA). Several budget airlines fly between Singapore and the rest of SEA.

Three days is sufficient to see Singapore: Sentosa Island, Little India, Orchard Street for shopping, Sungei Buloh Wetlands, Pulau Ubin Island to see what Singapore was like before she modernized.

From Singapore you can take a ferry and visit Batam and Bintam Islands in Indonesia for some gambling.

And for around a $100 US you can fly round trip to Bangkok, Jakarta, and Kuala Lumpur. And for under 200 fly to Vietnam. When you arrive in Singapore, pick up the English language daily paper Strait Times for fare deals. One airline had a roundtrip to the philippines for under 200.
