~ Edification of others is such a blessing. And it IS biblical:

~ Rom 15:2 Let every one of us please [his] neighbour for [his] good to edification.

~ 1Cr 14:3 But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men [to] edification, and exhortation, and comfort.

~ 2Cr 10:8 For though I should boast somewhat more of our authority, which the Lord hath given us for edification, and not for your destruction, I should not be ashamed:

~ 2Cr 13:10 Therefore I write these things being absent, lest being present I should use sharpness, according to the power which the Lord hath given me to edification, and not to destruction.

~ It is a pleasure to know that you are edifying (at least your lady friend)... but, you are finding out that some are not used to taking a complement. Why would that be: perhaps they do not have the confidence in them that you see in them...
Perhaps you can 'tone-down' your complements to a level that would be easier to accept:

~ You are so beautiful, Gloria... [Gloria is taken aback, blushes, and says "Stop it, Invisible! I'm NOT beautiful!"

~ Hey Gloria... your hair looks so pretty... I love the sheen from the sunlight in your hair... wow... [Gloria may acknowledge the hard work she put into having her hair 'hot-oil' treated, colored and trimmed, and say.. still blushing... "Thank you, Invisible.", as she turns and walks away.

~ Conjecture on my part, but keep up the edification, Invisible... you are on the right track.

~ Food for thought... how do you take complements? Do you react the same way when someone shares similar comments about you? Put yourself in 'Gloria's' shoes.

People have different perspectives. Some people just don't believe what you says because they don't trust you or they have their own reasons. Maybe they were in a bad mood? Cool it, be happy. Just shake off the matter. They don't believe you, but there's nothing you can do about it. Instead of brooding over the matter, why not be happier? As long as you know that you ARE telling the truth, that's all that matters :)
