For legal reasons, doctors will not see a patient without someone else in the room. This is to protect the doctor against being accused of having acted inappropriately with a patient. If your mother does not come into the examining room with you, the doctor will ask a nurse to be present during your examination. Would you feel more comfortable with a perfect stranger than your own mother? If so, then tell the doctor at your next visit.

How old are you?

You should probably sit down with your Mom before going to the doctor and explain to her that you're old enough to want some privacy during the exam. Tell your Mom that if she's concerned, it'll be ok if a nurse comes in to the examining room instead.

Be firm. Mom may not be ready to let you grow up yet, but it is what you have to do.

Wow, I think your mom sounds very overly protective, and now you seem to be coming of age where you want your privacy, and you should have a some, your mom has to start to trust you. But when it comes to your body, your mom should respect the fact that you ARE NAKED AND WANT YOUR PRIVACY. You are not 4 anymore! Keep talking to your mom, maybe its something deeper where something may have happend to her in the past, that she just doesn't trust nobody, and doesn't want to see anything happen to you,she may have her own insecurities. At a certain age, I think children SHOULD start to have their own privacy when it comes to their bodies, especially when their developing. Good luck.

my youngest girl in 17 and has always asked that I accompany her. Until recently when she said "OK mum exit." I got up and left. Are you sure your mum understands where you are?Mums love you more than you can understand. Sometimes the communications barriers build without you knowing it. Bear in mind as far as mum is concerned you are still a cute little bundle in nappies. It was hard for me when my girl wanted privacy and it took quite a bit of coming to terms with. But I worked through it and I am sure your mum will if you take the time to talk to her and explain. Remember it is no easier for her than it is you. In fact probably harder.

How old are you? Say to your mum just before you walk into the doctors surgery thanks mum for coming down here with me but i can take it from here or have a word to the doctor and explain the fact that you don't like her seeing you naked. I'm sure they will all understand.

Tell the doctor you'd like to undress with your mother out of the room.

You think that's embarassing? I once went to the doctor with a friend and his mom, because my mom couldn't take me that day. It was required that the guardian, my Mom's friend, be present when I undressed and was examined.

You need to explain to your mum why you don't want her there. And then when you see the doctor tell him/her that you don't want your mum to be there. Because you are their patient they have a duty to respect your wishes and confidentiality and there is nothing your mum can do. You need to sit down with her and really talk to her about why you don't want her in the room with you.

By all means talk to your Dr. Maybe he can get through to your Mom that she will still be informed of the results of the exam or whatever, but that you should have the privacy that you desire.

Bless your heart. Yes, by all means tell the doctor you need to speak to him privately. Don't be embarrassed, you will not be the first one to request this of a doctor.

Good Luck!!

Tell the doctor next time you don't want mum there. Maybe they can talk some sense into her.
