you must live in a warm climate. Here in MI its so cold even the roaches are hiding. LOL
seriously though, if you dont want to spray try leaving some boric acid mixed with sugar around the base of the structures you want to protect. This wil work for ants too. They take the poision back to the nest and .....gone!

I find a lot of peoples methods here quite tedious. I live in a town on the east coast of Australia (most common place for cockroaches in Australia). We have all the types (large and small) of cockroaches. There is no way you can actually get rid of them, they are one of the most successful organisms to date and have outlived the dinosaurs. Even if you think you have killed them off with batis etc, they will be back again and again. The only thing you can do is control their numbers by some housekeeping and killing off. Housekeeping is obvious, just don't let them get to food as much as possible. I find it is easier to use cockroach bombs and lay traps once a year, THEN just use a spray or whatever method to kill them off singularly. The bombs or equivalent simply release a whole can of spray which gets into crevices etc. You also kill spiders, silverfish etc. I use two in the kitchen and a further 4 around the house (they come in packs of 3 here). You will find lots of dead things the next week lying around. You should then lay traps in the kitchen. They LOVE going in appliances and stovetops, so put traps under them. Hope i helped.

We used to live in Texas, a very warm, humid climate where cockroaches were all over the place, to our chagrin. Despite another person's comment, it had nothing to do with cleanliness. I had heard of the boric acid idea, but in fact, we just hired an exterminator to come quarterly and spray the place for insects plus use a fogging machine in the attic to smoke the little beasties out.

FWIW, the problem was worse in the summer, when it was hot. In the winter the temps were more moderate (highs of 70 or so), and the cockroaches were too cold to cause damage :)

Get some boric acid form your local hardware store. It usually comes in a container like a squeeze bottle. Put the tip in the cracks in the concrete and squeeze. Treat all the cracks this way. Inside the house use Raid or Combat roach baits under your sinks, and any other areas you have plumbing.

When you stop seeing the roaches, get some concrete patch and seal up the cracks.

Firstly buy an insecticide and spray it to the drains. Then you should spray it to every nook and corner of your house. If the odour is unberable, contact a professional pest control agency and they will do the needful. Sign up for an annual contract so that it can be totally eliminated.

Boric acid, it is very effective when used properly for killing cockroaches and most other insects. You can also get a house lizard, they are natural enemies and will eat them.
