They were/are a great band, but they are under appreciated. Most people like 1 or 2 of their songs, but think they dont even compare to bands like metallica. I think they are wrong.

I think Alice in Chains is one of the greatest bands ever. And Layne Staley was one of the sexiest male singers ever.

In my opinion, their greatest work was the MTV unplugged CD. To me, this was the time when Layne's vocals where the strongest and most emotionally gripping I ever heard . Cantrell's unplugged guitar work is his certification as a consummate musician. They didn't get the notoriety of some of the other bands in their first rise to popularity, but I don't think that was their real motivation. It shows in their lyrics, there's real emotions being laid open. They weren't looking for the "hook" they were expressing their feeling about life and its trials.

Metallica and Alice are two different sounds But I will say this I think there is only 2 Alice songs that don't do it for me where as There are a lot of Metallica songs that don't get it
