That is kind of crazy. If there are going to be 180 students then that means that all of you have to sit through 179 speeches as the others go. That is incredibly boring. I guarantee you that after the first 2 1/2 speeches not many people will be paying attention. They will be zoned out, writing notes, doing other homework or sleeping.

It is incredibly boring to listen to an entire class of 25 students do speeches. I am floored by 180 kids giving 8 minute speeches.

Have some visual aids. This can help your nerves because you will have some things to point to and/or hold.

Practice in front of a mirror. Time yourself. Practice in front of your family. This will help you to feel more comfortable with the speech and to be able to pace yourself. A lot of times kids get it to 8 minutes, then when they have to perform they are nervous and talk so quickly that it ends up being too short.

Wouldn't be great if you were able to say a couple of things that were a little bit funny (but not disruptive)? Then it would be GOOD if the kids laugh... and it would be less boring.

Can you do a demonstration speech? These are nice because you are busy showing how to do something or how to prepare something. I think that it makes you less nervous.

Good luck.
