IN SOME STATES:
1-6th grades are elementary school
7-8th grade are jr. high or, middle school
9-12th is high school or, senior high school
IN EVERY STATE:
freshman is always 9th
sophomore is always 10th
junior is always 11th
senior is always 12th
& the same applies to the 4 college years - freshman, sophomore, junior, senior and above that, graduate student

Junior high school is grades 7-8 (typically age 12 when starting and age 14 when finishing)
Freshman year is first year of high school-grade 9 (usually age 14)
Sophomore year is second year of high school-grade 10 (usually age 15)
Junior is third year of high school-grade 11 (usually age 16)
Senior is fourth year of high school (usually age 17)
Middle school is usually grades 6-8 (ages 11-14)
Most American school systems choose either the junior high or middle school model for different reasons. Middle school is considered the "bridge" between elementary school and high school. junior high school is middle school; freshman year is usually 9th grade; sophmore year is usually 10th grade; middle school is usually 6-8th grade; and the difference in freshman and junior is freshman is usually in 9th grade and a junior is usually in the 11th grade; keep in mind this is in the U.S.

well i know its different every where but where i live:
middle school is grades 4th, & 5th but they recently changeed it so 6th grade is now a part of middle,.
junior high use to be grades 6th, 7th 8th but they recently changed it to 7th and 8th only
(High School)freshmen are 9th graders, sophmores are 10th graders (juniors are 11th graders and seniors are 12th graders) the difference between freshmen and junior is 2 yrs.
