Is the drinking affecting everyday life and the ability to function?
Then it is alcoholism. If not is casual drinking.

Well, understand if he's gotten all that out of the way, then I don't see the problem of a drink. I mean it is ok to party.

I do not understand why you need a formula for it..... Who cares. People do things for different reasons. Sometimes classification obscures rather than clarrifies.
