Hannah,
Pls talk to your mom about this and just let her know that you need to talk because you have started your period and would like to ask her some questions about womanhood.
If she is not comfortable with doing this try another female family member as another poster suggested or a trusted adult friend.
As for what to do if you have access to some pads place one in your panties. As for brand I like to use Always too.

Sorry to say, but you REALLY have to talk to your mom.
Till you figure out what to say, buy some pads and try to bear with it. The best brand of pads is Always, and it's easy. I wish you luck!
(Please talk to your mom as soon as possible. Trust me, it's easier than it seems. Since you're just starting and all, I don't think you'll have to many problems.)
Write down when you start and when you end too, so that you can remember about how long you'll be each month.

You need to talk to your mum, but if you dont feel comfortable about talking to her to you have a big sister, an aunt or any older female friend or relative you can talk to.
Just remember shes your mum and will always be there for you, youd done nothing to be shy or embrassed about you'vd just grown up. Enjoy being a woman instead of a girl.

i am from a very traditional family and had no problem in saying to my mom about my period. All i said was i think it started...she knew exactly what i was saying. and she hugged me and said everything will be ok and every girl gets it...don't worry. there is NOTHING wrong with you. Don't act like she is going to be mad at you or something. There IS NOT a problem if you GET ur period...there IS a problem if you DONT get it.... take care hun.

first, why dont u want to talk to your mom? she probably experienced period before. and , if you talk to her, you'll probably find the cure. but if THAT is the case. first, secretly( if you want to secretly) get pads your mom always put in her undies, and you'll just do the same, i mean put the pads in ur undies. but talking to mom is the best solution. and i am just 10! o well, u can ask ur health teacher for another solution, if u have one. but still.

You should really try to figure out a way to speak to your mother. Even the meanest, least understanding mother will be glad to help you.
You could also speak to an aunt, an older sister or cousin, your grandmother, your father, a teacher, your school nurse, a librarian, or a clergy member.

Assuming this is your first period, sorry, but you will probably have to ask her where the pads or tampons are, or get her help buying them for you. Pads are easier to use, but less comfortable once on than tampons. I recommend the kind of pad with "wings", this helps reduce staining and holds the pad in place. Also, Tylenol or Advil/ibuprofen are good to take care of cramps.

Hannah, please rethink talking to your Mom.
I just spoke to a friend I have had for many years. Her mother died just over a year ago. I had been having some menopause/hormone problems. I called this friend and we both agreed that we missed having our mothers to talk to when these things come up. Don't miss out on what your Mom has to offer. This subject may bring up some other topics that you want to avoid. Just talk about it and get it over with.

Start by obtaining some sanitary napkins. A special belt is used to hold them in place; speak to a pharmacist. Then you will probably want to investigate tampons; they are much more convenient (and less messy) than napkins. The package tells how to use them.
