I don't know him personally, and I suspect neither do you, so I won't go into that. I highly doubt he is on par with someone like, say, Mother Teresa, so go easy with such assessments. The "best" percussionist (or any artist) is always a lie, since
a) there are no criteria by which to evaluate who ranks where, and
b) each musician is the best at what ss/he does.
I could argue that Bill Bruford is "better," but that would be just a very, very stupid way of saying "I like his playing better." So, no, neither Neal nor anyone else is the "best," but I like his drumming, too.
I just can't stand that squeaky squealing voice, like a constipated girl.

i have a friend who's father is obsessed with rush and neil peart, and no matter what time we would be at his house if he was awake he would be watching a rush live dvd and would always stop us to watch the same drum solo over and over again.
i would have to say he's quite amazing and i never got tired of watching.

I wouldn't say he's THE best, but back in the day he was one of the best drummers in the business.
Oh and George G-that's Alex Lifeson not Leif Erickson.
